Thrissur: The death toll in the ambulance-car collision at Kanipayyur, Kunnamkulam, has risen to three, with Anthony (59), of Kunammoochi, succumbing to injuries at a private hospital in Thrissur on Sunday morning. He had been in the ICU since the crash.

His wife, Pushpa (59), and the patient in the ambulance, Kunhiraman (86), had died on the day of the accident.

The incident happened around 3 pm on August 10, when a car travelling in the wrong direction collided with an ambulance from a private hospital in Ernakulam, which was transporting Kunhiraman to Kannur. The impact overturned the ambulance and left the car mangled.

Ambulance staff nurse Vibin from Aluva, driver Aneesh from Kalamassery, and the patient’s relatives Vinod (53) and Chandran (57) from Kannur remain under treatment for injuries.

Rescue operations were carried out by the Kunnamkulam Fire Force with the help of local residents.
