Kadakkal/Thiruvananthapuram: A young software engineer was killed after a wild boar suddenly darted across the road and collided with his bike. The deceased is Adarsh (27), the only son of retired KSEB Assistant Executive Engineer S Ajayakumar and Sreekala of Ramamangalam Bungalow, Thirumala, Thiruvananthapuram.
Adarsh, who was on his way to Kodaikanal with friends, was thrown off the bike, suffered a severe head injury, and lay unattended on the road for some time.
The accident occurred near the Venkolla forest office on the Thiruvananthapuram–Chenkotta Road. The group of five friends, including Adarsh, had started their journey from Thiruvananthapuram on separate bikes. The wild boar that suddenly crossed the road rammed into Adarsh’s bike, throwing him off.
The mishap happened amidst heavy rain. Since his friends were riding some distance behind, they did not immediately realise the accident. A little later, they found him lying on the road. Though he was rushed to the Kadakkal Taluk Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the wild boar was fatally struck by a car coming from the opposite direction. The vehicle sped away without stopping, but was later traced and taken into custody by Chithara police from Thiruvananthapuram.
Adarsh’s body was taken to Parippally Medical College for post-mortem examination. The cremation was held today at 10.30 am at Shanthikavadam, Thycaud. Adarsh was employed with Speridian Technologies Private Limited, Thiruvananthapuram.
Starts ride on new bike, ends in tragedy
The untimely demise of Adarsh, who loved adventures, came as a rude shock to his family, friends, and local residents.
The five-member group, all classmates from Marian Engineering College, Kazhakkoottam, had set out for Kodaikanal from Thiruvananthapuram at 4.30 am. Each was on a separate bike. From the very start, Adarsh had been riding ahead of the others, his friends later said. Owing to the heavy rain, they were riding cautiously.
Initially, just 100 metres ahead, Adarsh gradually rode further ahead. Near the Venkolla forest office on the Thiruvananthapuram–Chenkotta Road, a wild boar suddenly darted across and toppled his bike.
Though wearing a helmet, Adarsh sustained critical head injuries when he fell. He was rushed to Kadakkal Taluk Hospital but could not be saved. He had recently bought the motorcycle he was riding. The body was brought home today around 9 am.
