Thrissur: Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi, who won the Lok Sabha elections from Thrissur, on Sunday, asserted that he is not answerable to the allegations of voter fraud in his parliamentary constituency and complaints against him over a fake affidavit.
This is the actor-turned-politician's first response since CPM and Congress leaders raised the allegations.

" Nothing doing", he said, ignoring the media. “I don’t think I should respond to the allegations of voter fraud. The Election Commission will answer your questions in its press conference today. I’m a Union Minister, I have no role in this matter,” said Suresh Gopi.

“If you have any questions, ask the Election Commission. If the EC takes the matter to the Supreme Court, you go and ask the apex court,” he added, mocking the media.

He also made a veiled attack on the Congress and CPM for raising the allegations against the BJP.

Suresh Gopi was speaking to the media after offering a garland to the statue of Sakthan Thampuran on the occasion of Chingam 1. "I garlanded the statue as a heartfelt gesture. I will work by absorbing the spirit of Shakthan Thampuran. He was a powerful ruler, and it is that strength we need to reclaim. This is my first offering towards that goal,” he added.

Thrissur Police had initiated an investigation against Suresh Gopi following a complaint that he transferred his vote to Thrissur by submitting a fake affidavit ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Documents also surfaced that revealed that Suresh Gopi's brother, Subhash Gopi, had his votes registered in both Thrissur and Kollam.

Meanwhile, the BJP has come under fire after serious allegations emerged of bogus votes being added in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the Thrissur constituency, particularly in city apartment complexes. At the Capital Village apartment in Punkunnam, nine bogus votes were allegedly registered to a flat without the owner’s knowledge. The irregularity occurred in Flat No. 4C, where, according to owner Prasanna, she is the only person with voting rights in Thrissur.

“The rest of my family votes in Poochinnipadam. I have no idea who added the others’ names. I lodged a complaint about the bogus entries,” she said.

CPM workers have alleged large-scale irregularities in the voter lists of booths 36 and 37 within the Thrissur Corporation limits. They claim outsiders were listed as residents of city flats and granted voting rights by providing false information. Many of those allegedly added to the rolls no longer live in the flats. A reality check found several apartments locked and unoccupied.
