Thiruvananthapuram: The Principal of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Dr PK Jabbar has barred doctors from making public statements, warning of strict disciplinary action against violations of service rules. The move came after nephrology department head Dr Mohan Das criticised the government’s post-mortem organ donation programme, Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS/K-SOTTO).

Dr Das, in a social media note, called the programme a “complete failure”. He pointed out that not a single cadaver transplant had been carried out at Alappuzha Medical College, where the K-SOTTO executive director is based. The post was later withdrawn.

His remarks followed those of Dr Haris Chirakal, who had earlier spoken publicly about a shortage of equipment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, sparking controversy.

In his post, shared while mourning the death of former nephrology head Dr Venugopal, Dr Das wrote: “It was Dr Venugopal and Dr Ramdas who made the Mrithasanjeevani project in Kerala a success. With the death of Dr Ramdas, Mrithasanjeevani has become a total failure.”
