Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Adv Sunny Joseph on Thursday asserted that no woman had approached him with a complaint against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil. Addressing the media, the Congress leader clarified that he had not received any written or oral complaint against the young leader to date.
Rahul Mamkoottathil has come under fire after Malayalam actor Rini Ann George accused a young politician of sending her obscene messages. Though the actor did not mention Rahul’s name, she claimed that the person is a public representative who holds top positions in a prominent party in Kerala. Hours after Rini’s allegations, writer Honey Bhaskaran claimed that Rahul had initiated a conversation with her on Instagram and later made derogatory remarks about her to others.
Following this, Rahul resigned as the Youth Congress state president.
Speaking about Rahul’s resignation, Joseph stated that the decision was entirely the MLA’s own. "I did not give any instructions to Rahul. He decided to step down from the post to avoid creating trouble for the party and activists because of his name,” he said.
The KPCC president added that if anyone files a complaint against Rahul, the party would examine it in detail.
Responding to Rini’s allegations, Rahul claimed that she was a close friend and said he did not believe her allegations were against him. He challenged Honey Bhaskaran to prove her claims and reiterated that the party leadership had not sought his resignation as the Youth Congress state president.
Hours after the Malayalam actor's revelations, the BJP staged a protest march to Rahul Mamkoottathil’s office in Palakkad on Wednesday night.
