A fire broke out at the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) refinery in Irumpanam, Kochi, on Saturday evening. The incident happened inside an oil storage tank with a 30000L capacity. Its top valve exploded due to pressure variation during refilling.

"We received the alert around 3 pm, and the blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes with the help of units from both the refinery and the fire station," said an official from the Thrippunithura fire station. "No injuries or casualties were reported," he added.
