Idukki: The death of a young man and woman in Udumbannoor was a case of suicide, the police confirmed on Saturday. Postmortem findings also support this conclusion.

The incident happened on Friday at Parakavala in Udumbannoor, where Manayanickal Shivaghosh (20) and Inchappalaykkal Meenakshi (21) were found dead inside a rented house, where Shivaghosh and his family lived.

According to police, Meenakshi had reached Shivaghosh’s house on Friday afternoon. A heated argument broke out between the two, after which Meenakshi went inside a room, locked the door, and hanged herself. When Shivaghosh broke open the door, he found her dead. Police believe that after bringing her down, he too took his life by hanging from the fan.

Marks on Meenakshi’s neck confirmed death by hanging, the postmortem indicated.

The two had been in a relationship for several years, and locals testified that Meenakshi frequently visited Shivaghosh at his residence. Both hailed from Parathodu. Meenakshi was a TTC student, while Shivaghosh was pursuing hotel management studies.

The funerals were held at their respective homes.
