Koduvally: As part of imparting practical knowledge of farming alongside studies, the NSS unit at Government Higher Secondary School, Karuvanpoyil, has launched an initiative to cultivate organic turmeric.

The project has been taken up on 20 cents of land belonging to Alolparambil Aslam, located near the school. NSS volunteers prepared the field by ploughing and clearing it before sowing. The planting of seeds was inaugurated by Principal Shaly Thomas, while PTA president Siddique Matholah presided over the function.

From collecting seeds to preparing the field and removing weeds, the entire process has been carried out by the students themselves. NSS Programme Officer Faisal Mavulladahil, Staff Secretary T K Anwar Sadath, NSS Thiruvambadi cluster convenor Raheesh, Senior Assistant C Sreenath and Dr K Anitha were among those who addressed the gathering.

NSS volunteer leaders V Diya Nanda, C V Muhammad Shaseen, V Akshaya and Muhammad Hijan Roshan led the cultivation activities.
