Kozhikode: A missing youth from West Hill, Kozhikode, was confirmed dead five years after his disappearance. Vigil Velathipadikkal (29), son of Vijayan of Chungam, was injected with a drug overdose by his friends. They later buried his body near Sarovaram in Eranhipalam.

Vigil went missing in March 2019, prompting his family to file a complaint with Elathur police. The case remained unresolved until an investigation pointed to his close friends, who were with him on the day he disappeared. During questioning, they confessed that Vigil, a drug addict, was administered a fatal overdose.

According to the FIR filed by Elathur police on Monday, Nikhil Kulangara Kandy (35) of Eranhipalam and Deepesh(27) of Vengeri deliberately injected Vigil with brown sugar despite knowing the risk. The group then disposed of the body in a boggy stretch at Sarovaram.

Police have arrested Nikhil and Deepesh, while the third accused, Renjith, a native of Poovattuparamba, is absconding. The case has been registered under IPC Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 201, 297 and 34. Elathur police said efforts are underway to locate the remains in Sarovaram.
