Kakkanad: Around 3,000 kg of e-waste -- old computers, printers, fax machines, photocopiers, landline phones, mobile phones, televisions and typewriters, among others  -- were removed from the collectorate and other buildings on the premises on Tuesday as part of the e-waste-free project.

The Shuchitwa Mission, Navakerala Mission, and Thrikkakara Municipality jointly shifted three tonnes of e-waste from the collectorate to the godown of the Clean Kerala Company, which purchased the waste at ₹15 per kg.

The authorities have decided to collect the maximum possible e-waste from government offices, local self-government offices, educational institutions, homes and other establishments, and hand them over to the Clean Kerala Company.

In the past five years, more than 25,000 kg of e-waste have been handed over to the company from the collectorate premises. District Collector G Priyanka flagged off the vehicle carrying the e-waste from the collectorate.

Deputy Collectors VE Abbas and K Manoj, Shuchitwa Mission District Coordinator Sheethal G Mohan, Nava Kerala Mission Coordinator S Ranjini and Shuchitwa Mission District Programme Officer Dhanya Josy also spoke at the event.
