Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted interim protection from arrest to actor Lakshmi R Menon, who has been booked in connection with the alleged abduction and assault of an IT professional.

Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas granted the relief while considering the anticipatory bail plea filed by the actor, LiveLaw reported.

An FIR was registered on August 25 at the Ernakulam Town North Police Station against Menon and others under Sections 140(2) (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 126 (wrongful restraint), 296 (obscene acts and songs), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

According to the complaint, a dispute broke out at ‘Velocity’ pub in Kochi in the presence of the actor and other accused. Following this, the complainant and his friend were allegedly followed in a car, forced to enter the accused’s vehicle after being verbally abused, and then assaulted inside. The complainant has also alleged that he received death threats.

A video of the alleged incident has since surfaced on social media. The case will be taken up for further consideration on September 17.
