Man jumps into gorge at Ponmudi, body recovered

Thiruvananthapuram: A 65-year-old man died after jumping into a gorge near the 22nd hairpin bend at Ponmudi hilltop on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Wahid, a resident of Kunnunad, Nedumangad.
Police said the incident occurred in front of the forest office. The Vithura Fire and Rescue team, assisted by a mountaineering unit from Thiruvananthapuram, recovered the body from the gorge. Forest officials, police personnel and local residents also took part in the operation, which was led by Vithura Fire Station Officer Rajendran.
The body was later shifted to the hospital in an ambulance.
