Thiruvananthapuram: The Southern Railway has announced the full cancellation of the Himasagar Express, scheduled to depart from Kanyakumari at 2.15 pm, due to adverse weather conditions in North India.
Rail traffic on the Kathua–Madhopur Punjab line was suspended after heavy rains caused widespread damage in the region. Observing this, the railways decided to cancel the Himasagar Weekly Express (Train No. 16317), which runs from Kanyakumari to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SDVK). A large number of Keralites depend on this weekly train.
Speaking to Onmanorama, the Public Relations Officer of Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station said that all reserved passengers had been informed through SMS alerts and social media updates.
Apart from the Himasagar Express, several other trains have been fully or partially cancelled as heavy rains continue to lash the northern states, including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.
According to reports, around 38 trains bound for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra were cancelled on Friday after flash floods and landslides, triggered by a cloudburst and heavy rain, struck parts of Jammu.
