'Need to make a call...': Kottayam youth asks for phone, flees with it; lands in lock-up

Thalayolapparambu: The Thalayolapparambu police have arrested 21-year-old Ajith for snatching a mobile phone from a man under the pretext of making a call and fleeing on a bike without returning it. A native of Puthencruz, Ajith is also an accused in several theft cases.
The incident occurred on August 12, when the accused stole the mobile phone of a person sitting on the verandah of a shop near the Hospital Junction in Thalayolaarambu. Based on a complaint, police examined CCTV footage and were able to identify the thief. Ajith was subsequently apprehended in the Pulikkamali area near Mulanthuruthy.
Police stated that Ajith has multiple pending cases, including theft and ganja-related offenses, across Koothattukulam, Ambalamedu, Hill Palace, Puthencruz, Kalamassery and Ernakulam Central Police stations.
The accused was brought to the Pulikkamali area by a team led by Sub Inspector P S Sudheeran for evidence collection, during which the stolen mobile phone was recovered. Ajith was later produced before the court and remanded.
