Munnar: Tigers are increasingly venturing close to human settlements in the Kundala-Santos region.

The carcass of a cow that went missing two weeks ago was recently discovered. Investigations confirmed that the cow, owned by Marimuthu of Santos Unnathi (settlement), was killed in a tiger attack. The animal had been released for grazing when it disappeared, prompting a search by the owner and his family, but it initially yielded no results.

The remains were spotted near the forest edge by locals who were repairing a drinking water pipeline. Over the past week, a three-member tiger group comprising an adult mother tiger with two cubs, has been regularly moving through the area.

Two days ago, the same tigers attacked a cow tied in Raghu’s stable in SC Nagar. The animals retreated halfway when the family rushed to the spot upon hearing the cow’s cries. Forest officials conducted an inspection of the area following the incident.
