Bheemanadi: The Kunnumkai-Kundamthattu-Moukkodu road in West Eleri Panchayat in Kasaragod has been left in a completely dilapidated state. With rainwater flowing across both sides of it, potholes have formed throughout the stretch, making it difficult even for pedestrians to walk. Vehicle accidents have also become increasingly common on this road, which is regularly used by school buses and other vehicles.
Although Rs. 7.5 lakh was allotted in two instalments for the restoration of the road and construction work had begun, local residents allege that major irregularities have taken place. Acting on a complaint, the executive engineer visited the site and directed the contractor to rectify the flaws. However, according to the residents, the contractor failed to carry out the corrections.
With the renovation left incomplete, both residents and commuters are facing severe hardship. Complaints have also been raised that the road lacks proper drainage, leading to rainwater flowing into the courtyards of nearby houses and damaging crops. Abdul Majeed, a local resident, has filed a complaint with the Hosdurg Taluk Legal Authority, seeking immediate intervention to restore the road and make it navigable.
