Kozhikode: A truck lost control and rammed into the crash barrier on the Thamarassery Ghat Road at the 9th curve was lifted on Sunday. The driver had a narrow escape as the vehicle was on the verge of plunging into a deep gorge.

Volunteers from the Churam Samrakshana Samithi and the police quickly arrived at the scene and rescued the driver using a rope. The truck was later lifted and moved to the side of the road.

Following the accident, traffic congestion was reported along the stretch leading to the ghat road. However, normal flow resumed soon after, as the truck had crashed on a relatively wider section of the road.

A police team from the Vythiri and Thamarassery police stations, along with the Fire and Rescue Services and volunteers from the Churam Samrakshana Samithi, took part in the rescue operation.

Notably, the accident occurred just hours after district authorities lifted the ban on truck movement along this stretch of National Highway 766. Heavy vehicles, including buses and trucks, had been barred from using the road after a massive mudslide struck the 9th curve near the Lakkidi View Point on August 26. The truck met with the accident near the mudslide-hit spot.
