Kozhikode: A 21-year-old student was found hanging from a staircase railing in her friend’s apartment at Eranhippalam here on Sunday night. The deceased is Aayisha Rasha, daughter of Abdul Rasheed Asharikkal from Thorayil, Modakkallur, near Atholi.

The Nadakkavu police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and held her boyfriend, Basheerudheen Mahmoud Ahammed, a gym trainer. It is learned that Aayisha, who was pursuing a physiotherapy course at Shree Devi College in Mangaluru, had come to stay with him for a few days without informing her family.

A police officer from Nadakkavu station said that Basheerudheen and Aayisha had some personal issues, and she may have taken her life because of that. Reportedly, when he returned from an Onam programme around 8.50 pm, Aayisha was found hanging. 

Although she was rushed to a nearby private hospital in Eranhippalam, doctors declared her dead. Basheerudheen is currently in the custody of Nadakkavu police.
