Traffic relief as Goshree parallel bridge reopens

Vallarpadam: The parallel bridge of the second Goshree bridge has been reopened to traffic, bringing relief to the heavy congestion at Bolgatty Junction. The bridge had remained closed for the past two months for maintenance work.
A symbolic inauguration of the bridge was organised under the aegis of FRAG, the central body of apex councils of residents’ associations in Vypeen, which brought a ‘Mahabali’ to the bridge. The reopening was also marked by a walk across the bridge, led by FRAG president V P Sabu, general secretary Anil Plaviyanas, and secretary P K Manoj.
District panchayat vice-president Elsy George, Mulavukad panchayat president V S Akbar, vice-president Rose Martin, standing committee chairman P. R. John Prabhu, and bus owners’ association representatives Lijan, Aneesh, Bennet Xavier, Ratheesh, and Sharat Kumar also participated.
On the occasion, FRAG reiterated its demand for the construction of parallel bridges for the first and third Goshree bridges as well. Members of the Goshree Human Rights Council were also present. The chairman of the outfit, Paul J Mampilly, addressed the gathering.
