Malappuram: A controversy has erupted after students at Kunhimon Haji Memorial Higher Secondary School in Alathiyur, Tirur, sang the RSS Ganageetham during the Independence Day celebrations.

According to reports, students were divided into groups to present cultural programmes as part of the August 15 celebrations. One such group performed the controversial song. Video footage later confirmed that the song sung was the Ganageetham, sparking sharp reactions.

School authorities clarified that it was an unintended mistake, stating that the students themselves had chosen the songs and that teachers had not vetted them in advance. The headmistress explained that the incident was an oversight and assured that those responsible would face appropriate action.

Several organisations staged protests against the incident, which were called off only after the school leadership promised an inquiry.
