Thiruvananthapuram: MLA Kadakampally Surendran on Tuesday issued a legal notice to Adv M Muneer, the former president of Pothencode block panchayat, accusing him of defamation. The notice, sent through advocate Sasthamangalam S Ajithkumar, alleges that Muneer filed a false complaint before the Kerala Police Chief, accusing Surendran of being a sex offender and circulated it to tarnish his reputation. Surendran has demanded that Muneer withdraw the allegations, apologise publicly, and pay ₹1 crore in compensation within 15 days, failing which legal action will follow.
Muneer had filed the complaint on August 29, two days after Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was booked by the Crime Branch in a separate case of stalking and criminal intimidation.
The complaint is based on allegations raised by Swapna Suresh during television interviews. Muneer said in his complaint that the allegations were of a serious nature, but the police did not take any action then. According to the complaint, which quotes Swapna's statements, Kadakampally allegedly sent her text messages of a lewd nature. It also mentions a voice clip in which Kadakampally allegedly talks in an inappropriate manner to a woman.
Muneer said that the women referred to in the complaint should be contacted and their statements collected for the investigation. "The Chief Minister has said that even if the survivors can't approach cops, the police will file cases based on complaints. So a case shall be charged against Kadakampally Surendran," he said.
