Thenjipalam: Polluted water flowed for hours under the culvert bridge in Kohinoor highway spreading panic and disgust among the people. The blackened water was found flowing under the bridge when it wasn’t raining, with no chance of natural springs. Meanwhile, the people of the locality say that the water had a foul smell.

They complain that the waste water that was dumped from tanker lorries may have flowed underneath the culvert bridge. Earlier, when water logging became a problem in the lorry stand, holes were drilled on the slabs to let the rainwater flow through the culvert. Many assume that waste water may have brought in tanker lorries and dumped into the slabs.

Tanker lorries are often parked at the lorry stand at night. People suspect waste water is dumped then from these tankers with hardly anyone noticing. Local residents say that they didn’t suspect anything when they noticed waste water flowing through the culvert during the rainy season. Many understood the seriousness of the issue when waste water began unexpectedly flowing when it wasn’t raining and the culvert was dry.

Canal isn’t built here for the water to flow out of the culvert. So, the waste water that stinks spreads in front of the shops and houses in the area. There is often a risk of flooding in the area during the heavy rains. Besides, the road from Kohinoor to Chenakkal is damaged at the Kohinoor area. Moreover, it’s been quite some time since Chenakkal Road has lost its connection with Kohinoor NH.
