Perumbilavu: The authorities have failed to install surveillance cameras near the Kadavalloor paddy field even eight months after the district collector had issued the order. The collector ordered to install the cameras following the farmers’ complaints that toilet waste was being dumped in the paddy fields. The electronics department of the public works department was entrusted to install the cameras.

Meanwhile, Kadavalloor panchayat had handed over Rs 3 lakh to the concerned authorities for this project. Despite frequent complaints and requests from the farmers, the authorities haven’t installed the surveillance cameras yet.

The farmers are worried as they are readying the paddy fields for the mundakan (second) season of paddy cultivation. Toilet waste is still dumped in lorries at many places. The waste containing chemicals had severely affected the yield last year. The farmers say that they had suffered financial loss as they didn’t get enough yield.
