Chakkarakkal: Farmers are unable to start paddy cultivation as there is no way to get the tractor into the field.

Cultivation has been delayed in more than 20 hectares of field in Kuttivayal, Bavod and Parivaram areas of Peralassery panchayat. Paddy was cultivated in these areas mostly by Aiswarya agricultural community. 

Vegetables too were grown in the fields on rotation, creating a festive mood in the countryside throughout the year. However, lanes were prepared on various spots in the field to cultivate plantains, date palms and tapioca, making it unable to drive a tractor or harvest machine into the field.

The farmers are dejected as the authorities have failed to take any action despite raising the issue multiple times. Now, paddy cultivation by various farmers’ associations and local farmers has been completely stalled here.

They are worried that paddy cultivation would disappear from the area if the authorities continue their apathy.
