Thrissur: In a shocking incident at Chalakudy, a 66-year-old man attacked his estranged wife with a hammer before dying by suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Devassy of Puthussery Kannappilly house. His wife Alphonsa, 60, had been living separately for some time due to marital discord.

According to police, around 8 am on Saturday, Devassy went to Alphonsa’s residence and struck her on the head with a hammer, leaving her with serious injuries. She was rushed to a private hospital in Chalakudy and is undergoing treatment.

Preliminary inquiries suggest a financial dispute triggered the attack. Police have registered a case and initiated further proceedings.
