Wayanad's idyllic Kuruva Islands opened for visitors

Pulpally: The Kuruva Islands in Wayanad has been opened for visitors after the district administration lifted the tourist ban that was imposed due to the heavy rains.
Now, tourists have been pouring into the Kuruva Islands that was shut down for more than three months. The employees had cleaned the island and the nearby areas the other day ahead of receiving the visitors.
Meanwhile, Chethalayam range officer M K Rajeevkumar, stated that raft riding in the lake would be resumed only after the strong currents subside. The forest department calls Kuruva, which is a group of small islands in the Kabani River, home to rare species of flora and fauna and wild orchids. Besides, you could also find rare aquatic animals here.
The raft ride to the island and back and the long-distance ride through the enchanting river were the highlights that often thrilled the tourists. The Kuruva Islands that had been shut down for quite some time was reopened after the court intervened.
Up to 488 visitors are allowed in this ecologically sensitive area in a day. 244 visitors would be allowed entry via Pakkam, while 245 visitors would be let in through Palvelicham. The entry ticket to the Kuruva Islands cost Rs 247 per head.
Meanwhile, the Pakkam-Kuruva forest protection samiti authorities said that all the arrangements have been made at the island to receive the tourists.
