Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam actor Siddique heaved a sigh of relief as the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court here on Tuesday relaxed his bail conditions in a rape case, allowing him to travel abroad. The court issued the order while considering his plea seeking permission to visit the UAE and Qatar.
According to his plea, he needs to visit the UAE from September 19 to 24 and Qatar from October 13 to 18 as part of film projects and related functions. Citing this, the actor requested the court to release his passport and grant permission for foreign travel.
On November 19, 2024, the Supreme Court directed him to surrender his passport and restricted him from leaving the country while granting him bail in the rape case.
Museum police in Thiruvananthapuram had charged the actor under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in August 2024. The complainant alleged that Siddique sexually assaulted her at Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram on January 28, 2016.
This case is among several against high-profile figures in the Malayalam film industry that surfaced after the Justice Hema Committee report.
