Kottayam: A youth who suffered critical burns after coming into contact with an overhead power line while climbing over a goods train succumbed to his injuries at Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, on Tuesday.

The victim, S R Adwaith (18) from Kumbalam in Ernakulam, suffered a shock when he attempted to cross the railway track after climbing on a goods train. He was immediately rushed to Kottayam Medical College Hospital with 80 per cent burns and admitted to the burn intensive care unit (ICU). Despite undergoing treatment for over a week, he died around 8 am on Tuesday.

Adwaith was a computer science student at Government Polytechnic College in Kaduthuruthy. He is survived by his father, M K Ratheesh Kumar, and mother, Sandhya.
