Cheruvathoor: A new churulan vallam (boat) built by Sabu Narayanan, who is renowned for constructing chundan vallams (snake boats) that have clinched the Nehru Trophy, is set to be launched on the water this Friday.
The new boat, named Veerabhadran, will be launched by the New Brothers Boat Club in Mayicha. According to K C Gireesh, the coach of New Brothers and chairman of KC Throws Academy, the boat has been crafted with the sole aim of winning the coveted Jalaraja (Water King) title when the Champions Trophy makes its debut in the district. The team’s leadership also includes Manoj Mamuni and K P Shiju.
Built at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh, this is the second churulan vallam to be built in the district by Sabu Narayanan, an expert in Thachu Sastharm (carpentry and wood joinery). He had earlier built a churulan vallam for the Vayalkkara Vengattu club too.
