Thiruvananthapuram: Superintendent of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital Dr BS Sunilkumar has formally sought relief from his responsibilities through a letter to the college principal.
In his letter, Dr Sunilkumar stated that ever since he assumed charge as superintendent, he has been unable to focus on his research and departmental work. A neurologist by specialisation, he said he has struggled to balance his PhD research, surgical duties, and administrative responsibilities.
Speaking to Onmanorama, Dr Sunilkumar said he has not yet been relieved by the authorities but reiterated that his research and professional commitments were being affected.
The development comes against the backdrop of ongoing controversies at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Recently, Urology HoD Dr Haris Chirakkal’s remarks on equipment shortages and stalled surgeries sparked disputes within the institution. A subsequent press conference by the superintendent and principal, during which the DME joined over a phone call, further fuelled the debate.
