Delayed repair of ambulance: Rights panel urges immediate action from health department

Farook: The Human Rights Commission has ordered the Health Department Secretary to take steps to grant permission within two weeks for the repair of the ambulance at the Taluk Hospital. The Commission's Judicial Member K Baijunath stated in the order that the Health Department Director should take steps to obtain approval for the ambulance's repairs.
The Commission also demanded that an ambulance be made available on a temporary basis for the emergency needs of the Taluk Hospital. An ambulance should be sourced from the National Health Mission, 108 service, or a nearby government hospital. The Commission also stated that an ambulance should also be made temporarily available for emergency needs at Farook Taluk Hospital.
Judicial Member, K Baijunath also suggested that the Health Department Secretary should take steps to prevent such administrative hurdles from recurring in the future. The actions taken based on this order should be reported to the Commission within two weeks.
The ambulance, which was allotted to the hospital from MP M.K. Raghavan's Asset Development Fund, met with an accident in Vadyarangadi on November 15, 2023. The repair is expected to cost ₹10.07 lakh, and the estimate is currently under the consideration of the Health Department Director. The Commission's action was based on a complaint filed by RTI activist K T Abdul Manaaf, a resident of Kallampara, Farook.
