Idukki: Nine passengers were injured after a KSRTC bus lost control and rammed into a roadside embankment at Chinnar near Elappara here on Saturday. The injured were rushed to Peerumedu Taluk Hospital for treatment.

The injured have been identified as Jinsimol (30) of 55th Mile; Joseph (75) of Vazhavara; Nirmala (47) of 4th Mile; Rangaiyan (68) of Chinnar; Namashivayam (62), Mathiyazhagan (55), Sundararajan (50), and Prabhu (40) — all from Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu; and Guru Patha (62) from Vagamon.

Most of the victims sustained facial and jawbone injuries due to the impact. Four of them were referred to a private hospital for X-ray scans. Hospital authorities said that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

The accident occurred around 8:45 pm at Chinnar along the Kattappana-Kuttikkanam hill highway. The bus, which was travelling from Alappuzha to Theni, veered off the road and collided with the embankment. The vehicle suffered significant damage in the crash.
