Mananthavady: Ending the long wait, admissions for students to the MBBS course have begun at the Government Medical College in Wayanad. The National Medical Mission has given approval for 50 MBBS seats at the medical college in Mananthavady.

Seven seats have been allotted for students in the All-India quota, while the remaining 43 seats would be allotted for students from Kerala. Meanwhile, the admission for the students in the All-India quota had begun yesterday. Saniya Biwal, who hails from Jaipur in Rajasthan took admission as the first student.

The NMC had published the All-India quota list of seven students to Mananthavady in the second round of medical admissions. Meanwhile, one of them is a native of Bathery. The admission of the remaining six students will be completed soon.

The classrooms are arranged on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the newly constructed multipurpose block by spending ₹45 crore. The students will have to study subjects like physiology, anatomy, biochemistry and community medicine in the first year.

Meanwhile, a Hyderabad-based company has already delivered the lab equipment. The admission procedures were overseen by medical college principal Dr S Mini, senior AOP V Rajesh, assistant professor Pranav Raghuram and senior superintendent SP Prabha.
