The suicide note of BJP councillor, K Anilkumar, does not have incriminating remarks against anyone, according to Poojapura police. Anilkumar, 58, who represented Thirumala ward in Thiruvananthapuram city corporation was found hanging in his ward office on Saturday.
"Autopsy showed it was a clear case of death by hanging. He used a plastic rope. The letter was recovered from the office. It mentions debts and doesn't blame anyone. The note is brief, it indicated he was depressed. There is nothing in the letter which suggests any kind of abetment," said a senior official with Poojapura police.
Anilkumar was found hanging from the clamp of the ceiling fan in his office at Thirumala on Saturday at 9.45 am.
The body of Anilkumar was kept at the BJP district office and will be taken to Thirumala ward office for the public to pay homage. The body will be then taken to his residence and to Santhikavadom where his mortal remains will be cremated.
The suicide of Anilkumar has ballooned into a political row with the CPM leadership demanding a probe into the financial issues that allegedly led to his suicide. Meanwhile, the BJP party workers have turned against the police and alleged that Anilkumar was put under pressure following complaints of non-payment of money from the society.
Anilkumar helmed a co-operative society at Valiyasala. According to people close to him, he was concerned about the piling debt and the inability to pay off the maturity amount of fixed deposits. There were reportedly many loan defaulters in the society, which aggravated the financial crisis.
