Changanassery: Curiosity and excitement filled the air as a series of rockets soared from SB College, Changanassery, on Sunday.

The launches were part of a robotics and rocket technology training programme for high school, higher secondary, and college students, organised by the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in association with SB College. The excitement peaked as student-built rockets lifted off from a launch pad set up in the college stadium.

A total of 106 students, divided into teams, took part in the programme. Twenty-one rockets were launched, with the farthest reaching 250 metres. The rockets used solid propulsion fuel and electronic direction assessment and control systems similar to those employed by ISRO.

Students from various states participated in the two-day training, which also featured sessions on robotics. The programme was led by College Manager Monsignor Antony Ethakkatt, Principal Prof Dr Teddy Kanjooparambil, IIST Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Kuruvila Joseph, SB College Physics Department Head Prof Ajay Joseph, Programme Convenor Prof Justine John, and coordinators Dr Lijo Jose and Sai Ujjwal, among others.
