Kollam: The Principal Sessions Court in Kollam on Monday cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to Satheesh S, the husband of Athulya Sekhar who died by suicide in Sharjah. He is expected to surrender before the Kollam Crime Branch office.

Satheesh S (40), a native of Sasthamcotta, is accused of abetting the suicide of his wife Athulya (29), who was found hanging under suspicious circumstances on July 19 in their apartment.

Satheesh had returned to Kerala after securing interim anticipatory bail in August. The court had granted relief noting that Dubai police had exonerated him and that Athulya’s death certificate issued by the Consulate General of India recorded the cause of death as “suicide by hanging”.

However, investigators in Kerala are focusing on assault marks found on Athulya’s body during the post-mortem. Satheesh, who lost his job in Dubai, landed in Thiruvananthapuram, where he was arrested and later released on bail by the Kollam Crime Branch after recording his statement.

Chavara Thekkumbhagam police filed a case against him on charges of murder, voluntarily causing hurt and dowry harassment based on the complaint filed by Athulya's mother, Thulasi Bhai. In her complaint, she said that Athulya was mentally and physically tortured by Satheesh in their flat, and two days before her death, he hit her head with a plate, kicked her, grabbed her by the neck and assaulted her.
