Kalamassery: A large sinkhole has formed in the middle of the playground on HMT land in Hidayath Nagar. The sinkhole appeared yesterday morning in the ground where children play.

Just the previous evening, children were playing football and cricket there. Driving lessons were also being conducted here. It was by luck that an accident was avoided.

The sinkhole formed to a depth of over 2 meters. The ground beneath the sinkhole is filled with plastic waste.

It is said that years ago, waste collected from roads in the municipal area was buried in pits in this area. A playground was then created by levelling soil over it. Doubts have also arisen as to whether there was a well here.

Locals have placed green branches and wooden pieces as a warning sign for the danger.
