Kozhikode: Fire broke out in a paint shop and spread to an adjacent bakery in Peruvayal, causing estimated losses of ₹50 lakh. The blaze broke out around 3.30 pm on Thursday at Colour Mart paint shop and Salah Bakery and Cool Bar, located in the Rajadhani building.

Almost all products in Colour Mart, including paints, turpentine, and thinner, were destroyed, along with plumbing, electrical, and hardware items. A major portion of Salah Bakery was also damaged, with its freezer completely destroyed.

“The fire started from a thinner in the paint shop, engulfing almost all products and causing substantial loss. The bakery also suffered major damage,” said an officer at the Vellimadukunnu fire station. 

Four fire engines, two from Vellimadukunnu and one each from Mukkom and Meenchanda, participated in the rescue operation led by Robi Varghese, Station Officer of Vellimadukunnu. Local residents also assisted in the efforts.
