Kozhikode: Police have registered a case in connection with the death of a four-month-old baby girl, Ayukta, daughter of Anjana and Shikhin from Vayalankara, Kuttikkattoor, under Peruvayal grama panchayat. The infant was declared dead at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital around 9.30 pm on September 30.

The case was filed under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, based on a complaint lodged by the child’s grandfather, Gireesh Kumar. According to the complaint, the baby was found unresponsive with phlegm coming from her nose at around 8 pm. “She had no prior health issues. As we wanted to know the exact reason for her death, we filed a complaint,” Gireesh told Onmanorama.

The child was first taken to a private hospital in Poovattuparamba and later shifted to the Institute of Maternal and Child Health at the medical college, where doctors confirmed her death. Medical College Station Inspector Baiju K Jose is leading the investigation.
