Minors held for pelting stones at Chennai Express in Kochi

Kochi: Two minors have been taken into custody in connection with the stone-pelting incident against the Chennai Express near Kalamassery, in which a fire and rescue officer sustained serious injuries. The minors, who are Class 11 students, were identified and detained by the Railway Police.
The incident took place on the evening of September 25. SS Ranjith, senior fire officer at the Paravur Fire and Rescue Station, who was seated by the window, suffered a head injury in the attack.
Following the attack, the Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) registered cases and launched a joint probe. The stone-pelting occurred near Kalamassery station, between Idappally and Kalamassery. Investigators sifted through multiple CCTV footage from the area and strengthened undercover surveillance to trace the culprits.
The two boys were produced before the Ernakulam Juvenile Justice Board along with their parents and later shifted to the Kakkanad Observation Home for 15 days.
A special team led by Ernakulam Railway Police DySP George Joseph cracked the case. Railway police inspector K Balan, SHO A Nisarudheen, and members of the DANSAF intelligence unit assisted in identifying and detaining the accused.
