Aloor: As many as 16 vibrant Pookkalams (flower carpets) were created using 101 varieties of flowers collected from fields and home gardens in and around Kuzhikkattussery Gramika. Each team consisted of five members, all under the age of 20. The flowers were used in their natural form, without chopping or disturbing the petals.

Samarda and her team, who designed their Pookkalam using 79 different flower varieties, bagged the first prize. An exhibition of indigenous flowers and a flower identification competition were also held as part of the event.

In the junior category, Anjitha secured first place by correctly identifying 61 out of 106 flower varieties. The festivities also included coconut frond braiding and musical chair competitions.
The event was inaugurated by K R Jojo, President of Aloor Panchayat, while Gramika President P K Kittan presided over the function.
