Koorachundu: The Koorachundu Dairy Producers Society has brought glory to the region, with two of its members winning top honours in the district-level awards instituted by the Dairy Development Department.
Deepu Abraham Kizhakkenath has been selected as the Best Young Dairy Farmer, while Keerthy Rani of Karimbanakkuzhiyil has won the title of Best Woman Dairy Farmer.
The awards were presented during the District Dairy Farmers’ Meet. Deepu Abraham received his award from District Panchayat Vice President P Gavas, while Milma Chairman K S Mani presented the award to Keerthy Rani.
From job offer abroad to dairy farming
Five years ago, 35-year-old Deepu turned down a lucrative job offer abroad to pursue dairy farming. Starting in 2020 with just five cows, he now runs a thriving farm with 15 milking cows and buffaloes.
Deepu supplies around 200 litres of milk daily to the Koorachundu Dairy Manufacturing Society. A director of the society, he was earlier recognised as the Best Young Dairy Farmer in the Balussery block.
Keerthy’s 21-year journey in dairy farming
For Keerthy Rani, dairy farming has been a way of life for more than two decades. With 21 years of experience, she has earned a strong reputation in the district’s dairy sector. Apart from winning this year’s Best Woman Dairy Farmer award, she also serves as a member of the Dairy Farmers’ Welfare Board at both the district and block levels and as a director of the Koorachundu Dairy Producers Society.
Keerthy rears 21 cows, mainly of Jersey and HF breeds and supplies 300 litres of milk daily to the society. Her dedication has earned her multiple honours, including the Ksheera Sahakari Award (2020) and the PDDDP State Award.
