Nenmara: Afsal, a class ten student who gave his bicycle a fabulous upgrade by attaching an engine is now the hero in his neighbourhood. Ayiloor native Mansoor Ali and Benseena are proud that their son has shown his exemplary skill in the mechanical field at a young age.

Afsal had borrowed the engine of an old two-wheeler from his neighbour. He repaired the engine and fixed it on his cycle’s carrier using hired welding machines. Afsal then connected the engine with the tyre using a chain, accelerator cable, switch and petrol tank. He now flaunts his new creation by riding the bicycle on the road. Meanwhile, Afsal’s cycle has become the talk of the town as well as at Ayiloor SM Higher Secondary School where he studies.

Afsal has been interested in mechanics from a young age itself, and used to deconstruct small devices to understand their functioning. A year ago, he built a temporary shed close to his house and repaired cycles. Meanwhile, he built a robot for the school science fest, earning praise from everyone. He had presented the idea of a cycle water pump up to the district level. School PTA President SM Shahjahan said that the school is committed to support Afsal and vows to arrange all the facilities for him to nurture his scientific temper.
