Kuttiattoor: The post office operating at KAKNS AUP School is always abuzz with activity. Post-boys A. V. Anvin and V. E. Dhyan Dev, along with post-girls OK Shreeya and S Tanmaya, can be seen busily sorting letters and parcels before heading out to classrooms in search of the addressees.

KAKNS AUP School has become the first in the state to launch a fully functional post office within its campus—one that is entirely managed by students. Recruitment to the post office mirrors the procedures of the Public Service Commission. It begins with a formal notification, followed by a written test conducted on OMR sheets, and concludes with an interview.

Selected student employees receive a salary from the school’s staff fund to support their educational expenses, along with a monthly increment of ₹10. Each student works two days a week and dons a special uniform and cap while on duty.

Their duties include sorting letters written by students and teachers and delivering them to the respective classrooms. Students from classes 3 to 7 are eligible to apply for positions in the school post office.

According to headmaster C. Habeeb, the initiative also aims to revive the lost charm of letter writing among children. “Letters can be written to both teachers and fellow students. All correspondence within the school is routed through this post office,” he said.

The facility also offers money transfer services and a courier system for delivering gifts sent by students for birthdays and special occasions. On National Postal Day, stamps are distributed to students, and only stamped letters are accepted for delivery.
