Traffic regulation at SN Junction in Kochi forces motorists into miserably long routes

Thripunithura: Vehicles are forced to travel an extra kilometre to go to Eroor via SN Junction. Despite installing the traffic signal at SN Junction, after waiting for years, vehicles are still not allowed to take this route to Eroor. Complaints are rife that the traffic rules that existed before the installation of the traffic signal are still implemented here. Passengers from Ambalamukal and Irumbanal sides to Eroor take U turn in front of the Adampillikavu temple at Vadakkekota.
The vehicles coming from Sanskrit College side too need to reach Adampillikavu temple to take the U turn. Drivers say that this often causes severe traffic blockades and time wastage. Meanwhile, the local residents allege that the area between Vadakkekota and SN Junction has become a traffic mess that gets worse.
The people in the locality have given multiple representations urging the authorities to allow vehicles to access SN Junction from all four sides; but no action has been taken yet.
ADRAK submits recommendations
Meanwhile, ADRAK officials have submitted recommendations to reduce the traffic blockade in SN Junction to the traffic authorities.
Installing a signal at Alliance Junction and allow entry for vehicles to south and north directions, aligning the functioning of this signal system with the one in SN Junction, allowing vehicles from all four sides at SN Junction and making free left easier and effortless by taking up more space on both sides of Eroor Road in SN Junction are some of the recommendations.
