Kozhikode: The police here on Tuesday arrested a youth and seized 30.27 grams of MDMA and ₹1.65 lakh in cash from his residence. The accused is Afam KT (24) of PP House, Parappil.
Kozhikode Town police and the District Anti-Narcotics Squad (DANSAF) raided his house and seized the drugs from a cupboard in his room. A pipe used for MDMA consumption, a weighing machine, plastic packets and an iPhone were also seized along with the contraband.
According to the officials Afam allegedly used his porotta-making business as a cover for drug distribution. Hoteliers and other clients would visit his house under the pretext of collecting porottas, but instead collected MDMA. Investigations suggest he also supplied drugs to college students and other young people in the city.
Police said Afam had been under surveillance for some time after a tip-off about unusual customer visits. He was booked under Section 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The operation was carried out by Town Station Sub Inspectors Jose V D’cruz, Kiran, Shabeer, Sajeevan and Ajitha, along with DANSAF Sub Inspectors Manoj Edayedath and Abdu Rahman. The seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in Kozhikode.
