Pathanamthitta: The zebra lines on the road in front of the Mini Civil Station here have almost completely faded, leaving pedestrians struggling to cross safely. Meanwhile, the markings at several other crossings along the same stretch have disappeared altogether.

The stretch here has become particularly risky as it now bears the brunt of diverted traffic following the construction work of an overbridge at the Aban junction. With frequent gridlocks and a steady rush of vehicles, pedestrians, especially schoolchildren and elderly people, are often forced to weave their way through the chaos.

Just the other day, an elderly woman narrowly escaped being hit by a speeding vehicle while attempting to cross the road. Even police officers find it difficult to manage the heavy traffic in this area.

As public concern grows, there is a rising demand to restore safe pedestrian crossings in front of the Mini Civil Station.
