Thiruvananthapuram: Six members of a family from Amboori in Thiruvananthapuram were hospitalised on Thursday after falling ill from consuming wild mushrooms.
The affected family includes Mohanan (65), his wife Savitri (60), their son Arun (36), daughter-in-law Suma (30), and grandchildren Anaswara (14) and Abhishek (12) — all residents of a tribal settlement in Thodumala, Amboori.
According to Amboori panchayat member Lali John, the family had cooked and eaten mushrooms they had collected from the area around their house for lunch.
The first to develop symptoms was Abhishek, who began vomiting and experienced diarrhoea and fatigue around 12.30 pm. He was initially taken to a nearby clinic and later shifted to CSI Medical College Hospital, Karakkonam, in a panchayat ambulance.
Soon after, Arun and other family members also began showing similar symptoms and were rushed to the same hospital. Among them, Arun and Savitri are in serious condition, while Abhishek and Mohanan are being treated in the hospital’s Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
The condition of Anaswara and Suma, who had consumed only a small portion of the food, is stable.
