Palakkad: Athulya and Akhila, the daughters of Sajitha, who was murdered by Chenthamara in 2019, have welcomed the verdict of the Palakkad Additional District and Sessions Court, which sentenced the convict to double life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹3.25 lakh. The court also directed that the fine amount be handed over to Sajitha’s daughters.

Speaking to the media outside the court, the sisters said they have no plans to appeal against the verdict in the High Court.

“He is facing charges in two other cases as well. We have decided to wait until the court pronounces verdicts in those. We hope he receives the maximum punishment in the pending cases,” they said.

The sisters added that they felt unsafe in court as Chenthamara was seated close to them.

Chenthamara had also murdered their father and grandmother in January 2025 after being released on bail in the Sajitha murder case.

Meanwhile, Sajitha’s sister urged the government to provide employment to the two girls, who were orphaned by the brutal killings.

“He killed their father and mother. Now they live with their maternal grandparents and are facing extreme financial hardship. I appeal to the government to offer jobs to the daughters,” she said.

Earlier, the government had promised protection to Sajitha’s daughters.

Additional District and Sessions Judge IV Kenneth George convicted Chenthamara under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 449 (house trespass) of the IPC. Chenthamara allegedly harboured animosity towards Sajitha and family, believing that his wife and children had left him due to their interference.
