Edathua: Rocky, a loyal dog, has become a local hero after saving the hands that feed him from a venomous cobra. Though seriously injured in the encounter, Rocky survived thanks to emergency treatment.
The incident occurred in Pacha when Rocky leapt to protect Tushara, a resident of the Thotukadavil family. While defending her, Rocky was bitten by the snake but continued fighting, eventually tearing the cobra’s head in two before collapsing unconscious.
Tushara had encountered the four-foot-long cobra while stepping out of her house to leave for Nedumbassery Airport, where she was to pick up her husband, Subash Krishna, arriving from abroad. The snake, lying by a wall, suddenly hooded and lunged at her. Seeing the danger, Rocky leapt at the snake, engaging it in a fierce fight and sustaining three bites in the process. Despite his injuries, he killed the snake.
As soon as Subash was informed, he instructed Tushara not to go to the airport and focus on saving Rocky’s life. Tushara then took the dog to the Veterinary Hospital in Harippad, under the guidance of Dr Mary Kunju of Kalarkodu Veterinary Hospital.
Since Rocky’s condition was critical, he was then rushed to Vets and Pets Multinational Hospital in Manjadi, Thiruvalla, after receiving initial treatment in Harippad.
Rocky was revived thanks to the intense efforts of a dedicated team of veterinarians led by surgeon Dr Bibin Prakash, along with Dr Sidharth, Dr Nima, and Dr Litty. Meanwhile, Subash arrived at the Thiruvalla hospital directly from the airport.
